If you are unfamiliar with Jessica Nigri, you must be very new to the internet! Jessica has been cosplaying since 2009, when her “sexy Pikachu” costume at Comic Con went viral. Thinking this costume would just be a one off hilarious take on the much beloved Pokémon, she has since exploded in popularity online with her amazing cosplay performances, which have allowed her to attend many conventions and become a spokesmodel for various games.
Her parents helped to foster her love of both games and costumes. From age 6 her father would sit with her and play Resident Evil, eventually Jessica picking up the controller herself. She had a strong love for Pokemon at an early age (what kid of the 90’s didn’t?) and also got into the Gears of War series. Her love for this series meant she would go on to promote the release of Gears of War 3 by cosplaying as Anya Stroud.
Discovering her talent for costume making had been passed on to her from her mother, Jessica makes her own costumes, as well as collaborating with others. She often posts her progress on her various social media outlets for fans to see how something is put together from start to finish.
Jessica is a big fan of anime, and her love for it began at a young age. Gurren Lagann, Basilisk, Dragonball Z, Pokemon being her favourites. As well as all things anime, she enjoys being active (including running half marathons and cycling!), travelling, making jewellery and baking. A busy life indeed!
You name it; Jessica’s probably cosplayed it in the last five years. Jessica frequently creates costumes that are gender bent versions of the original (that is, cosplaying the character as a different gender to the original). She has done fantastic versions of Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z), Freddy Krueger (Nightmare on Elm Street), and Portgas D. Ace (One Piece). Not to say her female character costumes are any less amazing. Her most notable female cosplay has been Juliet Starling (Lollipop Chainsaw) after winning IGN’s 2012 search for a model contest. She has also appeared as Rikku (Final Fantasy X), Harley Quinn (Batman) and Mad Moxxi (Borderlands) and many, many more.
Jessica has said she would someday like to step away from modelling for a more “behind the scenes” role in marketing and advertising. Stating that she would like to use something that requires more brains and not just be “boobs and a butt” for the rest of her life. Jessica has recently leant voice to some web shows (RWBY and Red vs Blue) as well as previously appearing in commercials (Killer is Dead and Lollipop Chainsaw).
